Dawn Silverberg’s Education Goal Statement
In pursuing my Doctorate degree, I feel that I will be able to achieve my goal of being a facilitator of student learning. I began my career in marketing with a degree from The Fashion Institute of Technology and worked in the field of public relations and marketing for many year. The skill set honed during this time, prepared me for my next career as an educator. In marketing, we take a product and find ways to motivate customers to become interested in our product and incorporate it into their everyday life. Education works the same way. The only difference is the product is the transfer of knowledge.
My educational goal is to gain skills to empower students. To accomplish this, I employ a wide variety of strategies based on pedagogical best practices, such as Bloom’s Taxonomy, encompassing professional learning opportunities, instructional methods using educational technology, and intrinsically motivating students to embrace the English Language Arts.As an English Language Arts instructor, helping students learn to how to effectively communicate their ideas through writing methods, grammar, and citing sources empowers them to become leaders. I see it as my duty to empower my teachers with the skills they will need to share what they know in ways that will be respected as they travel beyond the learning experiences that I prepare, into other their classroom and out to their students. To achieve this, I employ a variety of educational technologies to enable teachers to master teaching strategies, and digital fluency skills to shorten the feedback loop, and to facilitate the student’s ability to apply appropriate technology tools to communicate as a digital age
