I had always wanted to pursue engineering; ever since the day I entered middle school. I was always fascinated in the world of science because of the endless possibilities one could achieve. As junior year rolled around physics made me change my mentality not because of the strain of physics but rather my disinterest for it. This class made me rethink what my future would shape up to look like. The passion for engineering was no longer there and I did not want to have a career in something I had no interest in. So as a junior in high school I asked myself the most cliché question ever; what do I want to be when I grow up? The more I studied successful businessmen and fortune 500 companies, the more I developed a sense of belonging in the field. Still uncertain if business was right for me, a couple of classmates and I were discussing the notion of bringing DECA to my high school. I thought by starting this club it would provide more insight on business practices as a whole and the fundamentals it followed along with gaining leadership skills as we would be the first officers of this organization at our school. After getting permission from the school and getting a teacher to sponsor our student led organization, we had successfully started up DECA at Johnson High School. We discussed what was needed to formally organize this club and we elected officials. Wanting to grow with this organization, I ran for secretary so that I could help pioneer this club in the right direction. Within my first month after being elected secretary I learned about the framework of creating a business proposal along with using my creativity to be an innovative future business leader. As the secretary of this organization my role was to keep this club running efficiently and file necessary paperwork for tournaments and business proposals. Along with those responsibilities the officers had to brainstorm ways for DECA at Johnson high school to expand over the years. Throughout my DECA experience I gained leadership qualities by voicing my opinion to my fellow club members on different approaches to achieve our goals and how to be organized because organization was a key role in my job as secretary.
