Merriam-Webster dictionary defines diet as “the food and drink regularly consumed” which is very different from the way that most Americans think. The word diet is often used around the beginning of a new year when people all of a sudden feel motivated to lose weight and exercise more. The word diet also strikes thoughts of something horrible and restricting that will make it impossible to enjoy any food and you will be stuck eating nothing but lettuce topped with celery and carrot sticks. Both of these things could not be farther from the truth. A diet is simply what its’ definition states it is, the food we regularly eat. If a person eats three meals a day from a fast food restaurant, then we can say that they are on a fast food diet. My run time was getting slower, I was short of breath doing things that used to be easy for me, and my pants were getting tight. Then I saw a picture of myself and was astonished at how much more of me there was and knew I needed to work and could not rely on my youth. I made the changes slowly and begrudgingly at first.
