Family
What is the definition of family? If you look it up in the Webster's dictionary, you will find many definitions ranging from parents to children, the course of descent or lineage. It even states a group of organisms, either animal, or vegetable forming a category. I, on the other hand, have my definition of what family means.
The family is and has always been the foundation of society. It is where we learn about morals, principles, and values. For me, my family is where I learned about the real world at a safe distance. Also, it is where we learn about others. How to interact and treat others. Whenever I feel the pressures of life hitting too hard, my family is the first place I look for comfort. In some cases, it would be with my father offering his wise words or my sister who can always make me laugh when I am down and out. Trust and respect are two qualities that are the essence of a family, and it is something we learn early in life. We come into this world vulnerable and depend on our family to nurture and care for us. Responsibilities, duties, and obligations learned from our loved ones and are carried with us as we go into the world. This varies from the head of household being that of a single parent or grandparent. One of the hardest characteristics to learn about is a sacrifice, which is the act of doing or giving up something of value to give to another. Working long and hard days to support the family or, sleepless night from taking care of a newborn, or sick child these are all examples of sacrifice. Lastly and above all is love and hope which are the links that hold all this together. It is what drives a family to stick together during rough times.
