Cherry coke red, buttery blonde, caramel brown, strawberry blonde, fire truck red, chocolate brown; these terms have been used to describe hair colors for many years. One might say that these tones describe themselves however, we have all at some point in our lives fell victim, assuming that another person has understood what we were trying to achieve. It is very common and part of the creative in to give a descriptive word and find ourselves and other on a different wave length. At times people can be very obvious in their trends their likes and dislikes. Some questions you may ask are
What do you consider your style? Trendy, casual, edgy, chic? How often do you shampoo? Do you wear your hair straight curly or wavy? How often do you use hot tools on your hair? Do you use a thermal spray? How much time do you spend getting ready in the morning? How much time are you willing to spend? What type of shampoo and conditioner do you use? Would you be willing to purchase a deep conditioner?
In many cases a client will come in with a very unrealistic expectation of hair ideas. It is your job to point out their flaws in logic. If someone normally wears their hair in a bun a bob that requires blow drying into shape might not be a suitable transition for them. The same goes for products. Someone with black hair wanting to achieve a honey brown but doesn’t expect to buy a deep conditioning treatment or a color safe shampoo and conditioner is not prepared to make such a drastic change. Educating the client is extremely important in keeping them satisfied. In many cases what you may have to tell them is not what they want to hear but it is your job to do so.
