Happiness is an abstract feeling that is not concrete. Your happiness can be temporary in that you are happy in the moment and the next day your happiness is depleted. The ultimate aspiration by mankind is to achieve true happiness. There are notions that happiness can be achieved through conceptual human intervention. We are the masters of our own happiness. However, there are outside forces that are taken into account. These factors include quantitative and qualitative variables. Quantitative variables that influence us are wages, the hours spent at work, and the opportunity cost of losing time with family. Qualitative variables that affect us are the culture we live in and the wellbeing of the society around us.
According to LearnVest, a financial planning company, and the research done by Marist Institute for Public Opinion, earning $50,000 will make you happy (Wicker, 2012).
