When it comes to finding happiness, I believe that it is an internal journey. You shouldn’t go through life waiting for someone or something on the outside to make you feel joy. Sure, it happens, but at that point you’ve become too dependent on the outside world. Being able to identify the good of all things is an exceptional way to maintain happiness. When I am in a bad mood and not having a good day, which happens to everyone, I stop to think maybe it isn’t all that bad. Maybe I shouldn’t be complaining because someone else could be having it worse than me. Maybe if I didn’t make the situation into something it isn’t, I wouldn’t have a negative attitude. We grew emotionally dependent beginning when parents are the ones responsible for providing their kids with physical and emotional needs. According to Babauta (2008), we should not depend on others to fulfill our emotional needs because everyone is trying to meet their own needs and sometimes it is hard to be emotionally available for someone else when you have a life that is trying to be figured out. In my experience, I have learned that we shouldn’t depend on others to make us happy because we have no control over other people. We don’t know how they are feeling some days so we shouldn’t feel responsible for the negativity of someone else and we should not take to heart the words or actions of someone who doesn’t wish to spread anything but happiness.
