What if there was a word so powerful that it forced people to live their lives as something they were not or even a word that was so powerful that it took away peoples’ freedom? Well, unfortunately there is, and that word is faggot. Faggot is a word that describes a homosexual male in the United States. Although it means a homosexual, most young adults and teenagers use this word in the context of it meaning stupid. The word is heard all over the United States including in schools, public areas, and even music. Wether it is one kid calling another a faggot at the lunch table or another kid not being daring enough, people still continue to say to the wrong term and make it a common mistake in their dialect. During my elementary school years, students would continue to learn swear words and would tell their friends if they wanted impress them. One afternoon, one of my long ago friends said he heard a new word, which was faggot. While he said he heard this word from his older brother, he asked him what it meant and his definition of the word was a rabid dog. Being the first to learn a new swear was always an impressive thing in my third grade. While it was always the kids with older brothers who knew the most, only children or the eldest children would always be embarrassed about the littleness they know about swears. Although we knew a bunch of swears, we always had the wrong definition. While my current friends would talk about these words at the lunch table, we carried our discussion over to the soccer field where my dad coached. My dad has always been laid back about swearing but this was one of the only incidents that he got mad mainly because he was embarrassed due to the other coach hearing me swear. One of the most common things we would do is three versus three on miniature nets and during one of them, I accidentally blurted out the word. My dad yelled but almost laughed mainly because he had no idea how I knew this word.
