Rather than being an individual of complete and absolute evil, the serial killer is an addict. Formed by a dysfunctional upbringing and defective learning, the serial killer becomes contingent on fantasy as a coping mechanism. This is, in some respects, no different from the alcoholic using their drink of choice as a survival mechanism. Just as addicts tend to fall into a downward spiral, until all else in their lives centers around the addictive substance, the serial killers life begins to revolve around fantasy. The uprising develops to something so controlling that ultimately fantasy turn out to be the focus of the serial killers being.

Natalia Gallegos K. Hester Pre-Ap English II Jan 30, 2018 TITLE Hiding in the shadows of a normal life, dangerous psychopaths can fool us into believing they’re like everyone else. Serial killers are, in a way, fascinating because of their pychopathic thinking, way of masking their true colors , and impulsions/triggers. Dennis Rader, or as many identified him, the BTK Killer, is one of the United States most ruthless killers. Rader murdered 10 people in Wichita, Kansas from 1974-1991 often leaving clues to play with local authorities.
Edward Spreitzer Edward Spreitzer was born on January 5, 1961 in Chicago Illinois and is a known serial killer. Throughout his whole life, Spreitzer did not get along with his stepfather and was often bullied as a child. Around 18 years old, Spreitzer was asked to leave home when he was involved in a horrific car accident. After leaving, Spreitzer eventually met Robin Gecht, where he joined his satanic cult. Due to Spreitzers’ low IQ of 76, many people believe this was a factor in why he was so easily manipulated.
Dennis Lynn Rader was born on March 9, 1945 in Pittsburg, Kansas. He was the oldest of four boys born to Dorothea Mae Rader and William Elvin Rader who was a member of the US Marine Corps. Not much is known about Rader’s childhood, but he did join the Boy Scouts as a boy. According to himself, Rader admitted that he had fantasies about torture and control from a very young age, and as he grew older his fantasies normally consisted of tying up gullible girls and having his way with them. Those that knew him in youth described him as quiet, polite, and lacking a sense of humour.
Imagine a man taking innocent women to the woods to hunt them down with his rifle, just like wild animals. This sick man killed up to 21 women and raped over 30. Robert Hansen was a violent criminal, who is little known for the horrific crimes he committed in the Alaskan wilderness. Robert Hansen had a hard life as a kid. His father was very strict and forced him to work many hours each day at the family bakery( Lohr, 5 ).
The Profile of the BTK Killer Dennis Lynn Rader has struggled with this bloodthirsty, lustful monster that has plagued his psyche—ultimately damaging both himself and the society as a whole. Wichita, Kansas policemen had a difficult time identifying the culprit of ten convicted murders, condoned in broad daylight all within the vicinity, from 1974-1991. Rader, who refers to himself as BTK, was able to strangle and suffocate neighboring victims under the radar for nearly thirty years. BTK killed in a similar fashion consecutively; his method followed his “bind, torture, kill” perversions and fantasies. Most of BTK’s victims were females of all ages, but males were only attacked if they were concurrently in the same household as the woman
Race would have, without a doubt, gone to prison for first and second-degree murder has he not been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Even though Glen’s actus reus was plain and simple, to kill these men, it’s safe to say his mens rea does not intersect accordingly. Glen Race, ever since he came back home from that trip from Taipei and had experimented with drugs, he became enveloped in this idea that he was a God like entity whose sole mission on Earth was to kill vampire demons. These out-of-reality ideas of his can be traced back up five to six years before the murders ever took place. As Mr. Race’s untreated schizophrenia progressed so did his psychotic beliefs of his mission on earth.
(Schade, 2010) Over the years, Rader was sending out different signals of the murders that he committed. He loved the idea of the spotlight, he loved the attention of it all. Every time he committed a crime, he tried to leave something and take something with him. Each time they could not determine who committed the murders even with the numerous of evidence that was presented.
After a serial killer kills one person, they could go months or years before they kill another. Serial killers usually develop a pattern, a specific attribute or characteristics in others that they look for and use to fulfill a role in the killer’s fantasies. (Wrightman, pg. 150) What motivates a person to kill and why can’t we get into a their mind? Childhood traumas, may it be physically or emotionally, could be the root of their beginnings.
Robert Hansen is a serial killer from Iowa, but grew up in Alaska. He is considered as one of the country's worst killers. Rob didn't take what he did as important as other people did. He thought of it as a normal hobby of his. Rob did have reasoning behind killing innocent lives.
Clifford Olson was arguably Canada’s first and most notorious serial killer. During his reign, he committed many different crimes, including rape, theft, and murder. He was responsible for the murder of eleven young individuals, which caused pain and grief to their friends and families. Psychopathy is a mental condition found in many serial killers and was the reason that Clifford Olson committed his many heinous murders. A look into Olson’s background and his conduct after committing the murders will provide more than enough evidence to show the clear signs of psychopathy that he displayed.
The worst thing Dennis Rader did was murder ten innocent people I for his own sick sexual sadist pleasure. After each killing he continued with life as normal, as if nothing even happened. He did things from manipulate his victims to outright lie and kill his victims while looking them in the face while killing them. Anyone who is remotely sane in the world would not feel comfortable killing a human being but leave it to Dennis Rader he killed and lived life as normal.
‘The Psychology of a Murderer What makes a murderer? Is it a psychological issues, a dark obsession, a story of their past, a compulsive disorder? Is there perhaps a more inner and deeper reason why they do these said things. Maybe the worlds most clinically insane can help shed a light on the dark parts of a murderers brain. “Nobody owns life, but anyone who can pick up a frying pan owns death” (Burroughs S.). The psyche of a murder is unique and definitely interesting although the thought process is rather unusual.
. Christie’s detective world is very much a product of the post World War I ‘modernist’ cynicism which also rendered in humans, a sense of introspection. As Poirot says, “It is the brain, the little grey cells on which one must rely. One must seek the truth within, not without.”
