From the moment I stepped into a dental clinic as a child, I was enthralled by the importance of oral health and the role of dental professionals in fostering it. This early fascination ignited a passion within me to pursue a career as a dental hygienist, where I could not only help individuals achieve healthier smiles but also contribute to the overall general health of those in my community. My educational goals are focused on acquiring the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to excel in this field, and winning this scholarship would serve as a vital stepping stone in achieving those aspirations. Becoming a dental hygienist is more than just a career choice for me; it's a calling, rooted in my desire to make a tangible difference
I know Rochester like the back of my hand. The roads, the stoplight and most of the warm hearted people that inhabit it. That being said, I know how the community has played a supportive role in my growing up and education today. From preschool to now senior year, Rochester has pushed me to be my best self for my post secondary education. Moving on after high school, I am going to pursue a career in dental hygiene.
My Education goals are why I chose APUS, When I graduated from high school in 2014 I started my ROP Dental Assisting program to become a Certified Dental assistant in the state of California so that I could get my foot in the door in Dentistry to one day become a Dental Hygienist. But now here I am two years later working as a full time dental assistant and I have no passion or desire in pursuing in becoming a Hygienist because its not something I feel I could really be happy with and do for the rest of my life. My real passion has always been with children I have always loved working with children weather it was when I was working at a daycare in high school or when I was a cheerleading coach for young girls between the ages of 4-9, I have
My motivation in life thrives when I face challenges. My biggest challenge was moving away from my family and developing my network on my own. Growing up as a member of a Korean family, our greatest values are gathering and having quality time. Thus, it was hard to accept that I am no longer involved in family times due to the long distance. However, as I had more time for myself, I could look back at myself and explore my interest.
Not every seventeen year old can tell you what they plan on majoring in without changing their mind but not me. I’ve always been interested in teeth. I plan on studying Dental Hygiene at Northern Arizona University because I want to be exposed to more than one learning environment. When I receive my bachelors in Dental Hygiene I want to stay in Flagstaff for a couple years and eventually go back to school in order to become a dentist but I would rather be practicing dental hygiene than go to dental school for a long period of time.
Capturing a picture isn’t as easy as it seems. We have to make sure we have the right angles and filters. We want the most beautiful scenery and lighting. It’s all the little things we must adjust to create the perfect image. Life is exactly the same.
I actually never thought of being in the dental field but, I took a leap of faith. During my time working as a Dental Assistant I fell in love with the field of Dentistry. Being able to be hands on and help people change people's lives one at a time because oral health is very important to our overall health. I learned so much from this. I had two amazing doctors that taught me everything they know, and I truly appreciate their time and patience.
Dental Assistant Most dental assistants work in a dental office and are trained to do a variety of duties. Most of these duties are done while working beside the dentist. Some duties included are helping prepare patients for treatment, passing instruments, and suctioning the mouth while the dentist performs his procedures. There are also laboratory duties included with this job such as sterilizing and preparing instruments, creating casts of the teeth, and making temporary crowns.
Being a Dental Assistant Dental Assistants can help change a person’s life in many ways. Dental assistants provide their patients a way to stay healthy within oral activities while also providing general happiness to a patient. Assistants work hand in hand with a dental hygienist observing, supporting, and caring for the patients need, whenever they need them. They work with tools, sit and stand long periods per day, and work in one of the dirtiest places on the human body, the mouth (Summary). Dental Assistants practice safety measures, just like any other doctor would, to assure the safety of themselves, along with the safety of their patients and organs that are being worked on from infectious diseases.
As I reflect on my journey towards orthodontics, my thoughts are drawn to my many years spent becoming a five-time Canadian national champion synchronized swimmer, and how they led me to this career path before I even knew it was my passion. Although at first glance vastly different from synchronized swimming, orthodontics drew my attention early on in dental school with its use of a complex, yet systemized interlacing of details –a skill I had spent years training to master. In orthodontics, just as in synchronized swimming, each action causes a reaction, and these must all be accounted for to achieve a goal. Swimmers must perform in unison in order to succeed; teeth are steel-tied to act as a single unit.
My ambition to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy at University commenced in my teenage years, when I first came to London and visited the dentist. The professional approach coupled with a kind and compassionate nature and all of the different instruments and scientific technology the Dental Hygienist and Therapist used fascinated me. I am currently studying Dental Nursing at Teesside University. This course involves providing correct support to the dentist at the chair side, reassuring and supporting patients, maintaining a gold standard clinical environment, charting, dental anatomy and physiology. Studying this course has enhanced my knowledge of dental terminology and procedures as well as the anatomy of the oral cavity.
A strong passion and a need for perfection drive me to settle for nothing less than my personal best in my areas of interest and their accompanying hobbies. In all honestly, however, while I have held the view of dentistry, specifically orthodontics, as my future profession for nearly as long as I can remember, the untamable internal fire that motivates in other pursuits of interest was, for the majority of that time, absent with respect to orthodontics. Growing up with a medical doctor for a mom, a bias for the field of medicine has always been a part of me. Early trips to my orthodontist however, altered that “destine” career path in a small sense, as his generosity and his obvious genuine enjoyment with his job, convinced me that perhaps
As a freshman at Dixie State University, I’ll be studying to get my bachelors degree in dental hygiene. I want to return back home, in Chuuk and open a dental business in order to help out my family and youth in the area. However, these types of services are available to them, but they have poor services and they are inexperienced. Every kid wants to grow up and help their families out and make them proud. As majoring in dental hygiene, it is a big thing for me and my family.
Attacking the core of a problem solves not only that problem but others that don’t even seem to be related. Ive always been passionate about making a drastic change in people lives to better them in any way I can. As a kid it would be imagining crazy scenarios where I save people like a superhero, but as we grow older we see that superheroes, as cliché as it may sound, don’t always wear capes. These are the people impacting lives every day by simply using their knowledge to impact other’s lives for the better. This is what I hoped to do with a career in dentistry as I entered my undergraduate career.
