Lisa Messinger (50) is a philanthropist and past President of the Westchester Reform Temple, where she was also served as a board and executive committee member. During her tenure as Westchester Reform’s president, she co-led a $20 million capital campaign, created programs for different age groups and developed new fundraising strategies, which significantly broadened its donor base. Lisa has also served on the boards of several other non-profits including the Foundation for Summer Camps and URJ Eisner & Crane Lake Camps, where she was also its chair. She fills the role perfectly with her drive for knowledge, she has been in a leadership roll for years as a 4H Honors/Allstar member. I think that this has helped her perfect her pursuit through coaching or mentoring shotgun sports with SCTP. I can always rely on her to work with me on our new and upcoming youth, her form and stance will always be textbook, this seems to help the youth understand what goal we are working towards. She could and will pursue the roll of coaching to the next level in the future.

Growing up as a young black African-American girl in the rural south, Atlanta Georgia to be exact was not just southern peaches and cream, but more everyday trials and tribulations that built character. Marie Linnette Scott, born on 09/21/1930 at a healthy seven pounds, 2 ounces to the late Fannie Brown and Fredrick Brown. She was the second daughter of the family and the last child. Marie was the baby in the family and brought so much joy to her family. Having a father as a farmer and a mother as a housewife taught Marie to work hard and always keep up on household duties.
My Fellow Delegates it has become evident that the Articles of Confederation are not functioning for our country. Under this form of government we are too weak and have no power. Our ideals of creating a government where we do not have power to enforce laws, collect taxes, raise an army, or even regulate trade is not functioning. We cannot give our states this much power, we must have more power as a federal government. Seeing that we have a weak federal government, we have a lack of legitimacy and are unable to repay the money we borrowed to fight the Revolutionary War.
In my school, a girl named Shelby died fighting cancer. Our school did everything in their power to help her family, a family that had decided to raise money to help not only themselves but other families that are fighting cancer. They started selling bracelets, shirts, and other merchandise to raise money. “Fight like a girl,” this was their title. Everyone knew of Shelby and how strong she had been.
Throughout high school I have participated in many different activities and programs, but one of the opportunities I was given I will carry with me forever. As a junior at River Valley I participated in the Marion General Teen Volunteer Program. After interviewing and being placed in the physical therapy unit I took the opportunity to branch out into other areas of the hospital. I soon made my way to the labor and delivery floor where everyday a miracle happened. My duties while volunteering included assisting the nurses during hearing checks, changing diapers, and rocking crying infants in special care.
The child I took care of was born with Down-Syndrome and it was my job to help him with his homework and other daily obstacles he might have. Another family I worked with had daughter (she was 4 years old) who also has Down-Syndrome. I got help potty train her and help her with her ABC’s. During the summer of 2015, I drove to Lipscomb University’s campus with my mandatory khaki shorts and a positive attitude. I knew it was an honor that I was given the chance to attend Volunteer Girls State, but I had no idea to what extent. I grab my bags, walk to registration, and instantaneously get fixed inside a cloud of smiles, greetings, and positivity. It was almost overwhelming just how cheerful the atmosphere was, but it was tremendously refreshing. I told my mom goodbye and glanced over my busy itinerary with my roommate just before heading to the first of many Davis City meetings.
