Did Romeo and Juliet really experience true love?
In the book of Romeo and Juliet, the young couple experienced what they thought was true love. They fought through a series of battles for each other. But realistically, it was not true love. Romeo and Juliet were not in a true love relationship since they had not spent any time getting to know one another or developped a relationship that would have been indicative of true love.
Romeo only judged Juliet based on her beauty. At Lord Capulet’s masquerade party, Romeo was only thinking about Rosaline and thought that he was in love with her and there would never be anyone more beautiful than her. Before he met Juliet, he only had eyes for Rosaline’s beauty. But after he met Juliet, he completely forgot about Rosaline and he instantly fell in love with Juliet's beauty. This shows that Romeo’s only motive is beauty and not true love. Romeo and Juliet barely knew anything about each other but still insisted they were lovers. True love is when two individuals love each other for all their aspects but in Romeo and Juliet they only knew so little about each other.Romeo and Juliet couldn’t have been in love after the little time they spent together. In act 2, scene 2 of the book, Romeo climbs on Juliet's balcony after hearing her voice. They declare their love for each other and Juliet says to Romeo, “If that thy bent of love be honorable, Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow.” This quote proves that Romeo and Juliet spent too little time together to fall in love because on the same night they met,
