Are you interested in being a Registered Dietitian, but you are wondering how to get to your goal? A Registered Dietitian is an expert in food and nutrition. They advise people on what to eat in order to live a healthy lifestyle. Dietitians typically evaluate their patients’ health, counsel them on how on nutrition issues, and develop meal plans to improve their health (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014, What They Do). Dietitians are usually employees to hospitals, nursing homes, cafeterias, and schools. Self-employed dietitians work as consultants to individuals or work for healthcare establishments. Community dietitians work for government agencies, home health agencies, and clinics (Moore, S., 2014, para. 1). Most dietitians receive bachelor’s degrees in diuretics, food and nutrition, food service management, clinical nutrition, and supervised training as part of coursework. Many states require dieticians to have a license, such as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014, How to Become a Dietitian or Nutritionist).
