Capex vs Opex in technology advancement Capex or Capital expenditure in technology advancement refer to business expense incurred for creating future benefit in technology by developing facilities or upgrading the existing facilities. Most of the companies funded their data storage facilities through CapEx by upgrading or developing their own servers, software, storage units and physical facilities so that the value of the assets increase. However, nowadays, there are more companies shift from CapEx to OpEx. OpEx or operating expenditure in technology advancement refer to ongoing cost for running the facilities such as lease or general repair and maintenance the facilities.
