Intelligent Design v/s evolution

Intelligent design and evolution are two competing theories which try to explain how life forms develop on earth and how new species are created. Evolution has been the scientifically approved theory ever since it was given by Charles Darwin in 1859 and is taught to students in schools around the world. ID is comparatively newer theory which opposes Evolution. Let us find out what exactly these theories are-:

Intelligent Design: It states that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause. There is an entity named designer who has designed the whole process of emergence of new species. Complex structures cannot just arrive from simpler structures just by chance. There has to be someone guiding the process. That someone is given the name ‘designer’ by ID theorists.

Evolution: Darwin 's Evolution theory states that: “All species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual 's ability to compete, survive, and reproduce.” Natural selection and Mutation are basis of evolution. Mutation refers to errors in copying the DNA sequence from parents to off-springs. Some of these errors may turn out to be beneficial to the organism for survival. Such characteristics are favoured and are passed on to the next generation. Accumulation of such new characteristics lead to emergence of a new species. This whole process is known as natural …show more content…

The only two agents that are involved in evolution are mutations and natural selection. While on the other hand in ID theory, we also have to account for the existence of an intelligent designer along with all other variables and agents involved in evolution. Thus, according to the principal of Occum 's razor it makes rather more sense to accept the theory of evolution. (Occam 's razor is a problem-solving principle which states that if there are two or more competing hypotheses or theories which explain a phenomenon equally well then the one with the fewest assumptions i.e. the simpler theory or hypothesis should be …show more content…

He also predicted the characteristics of fossils that would be discovered in the future. His predictions were later verified by experiments and observations. On the other hand ID theory does not provide any way through which it could be verified.
ID theorists say that evolution cannot explain steps involved in formation of a new complex species from a simpler one. Most of the evolution predictions are only at micro level. There haven 't been any correct predictions at macro level. For example – evolution theorists have not been able to answer the question whether another species which is even better than human beings would evolve or not.
7- Burden on natural selection-:
ID theorists argue that their evolution counterparts continue to put ever increasing burden on natural selection by ascribing more and more duties to natural selection. Perhaps an analogy would be a better way to explain this
