Title Researchers and scientists have constructed extensive research on dinosaur’s extinction. Speculation instead of real evidence seems common in most theories about the dinosaurs’ extinction. However, Jay Gould’s essay “Sex, Drugs, and the Extinction of Dinosaurs” is the complete opposite of speculation over evidence. Rather, Gould uses the mix of persuasive techniques, such as rhetorical questions, logos, along with profound evidence to not only disapprove of other theories but convince readers of his place on the dinosaur’s extinction.
And expectedly, as an expert witness, he provided knowledgeable and scientific proofs to support the defense side. First of all, he stated his neutrality towards religion, making sure that his evidence is definitely unbiased. Osborn started his delivery with his belief that our ancestors are not ape-like, instead they are more human than ape. As a staff in the museum, he urged the investigation and exhibition of murals, habitat dioramas, and dinosaur mounts. His mentioning of the existence of dinosaurs was conducive to denying the bible.
Ken Ham proudly supports this theory by many displays of dinosaurs in the museum to remind Christians of this theory in Genesis. Bill Nye makes a a spectacle out of this theory, Again, Bill Nye discusses about dinosaur fossils dated back millions of years ago and to go visit secular
After Brady says everything in the Bible is true, Drummond says: “now if what you say factually happened--if Joshua halted the sun in the sky--that means the earth stopped spinning on its axis; continents toppled over each other, mountains flew out into space. And the earth, arrested in its orbit, shriveled to a cinder and crashed into the sun. How come they missed this tidbit of news” (Lawrence and Lee 89). Brady looks ignorant as Drummond demolishes him with facts. Drummond considers that Brady says everything in the Bible is true, but why did all these facts get left out from science?
The making of film, or the concept of it, has been around since the beginning of the 18th century. The lens of the camera has captured some of the most beautiful things, but also the most prejudice. Stereotypes of races, ethnicities, and gender have always been around but were widely considered acceptable in films of that era. Almost as long as there have been people filming, there have been people fighting for equality to be presented on the big screen. Danez Smith is one of these modern fighters in his free verse poem “Dinosaurs in the Hood.”
Dr. Mortenson taught his audience on the subject of how the idea that the earth is billions of years old became such an accepted belief, and is almost unquestioned by the current generation. Using Processional organization, he presented his speech through the years of different atheists and deists such as Jean Lamarck, and Pierre Laplace, as well as through the eyes of “liberal theologians” such as Thomas Chalmers, and George Stanley. Dr. Mortenson showed his audience through means of informative speech, how we should understand that the prevailing belief the world is billions of years old, did not happen overnight. Through his approach to the audience, his organizational process, and his informative strategy, Dr. Mortenson could effectively or inefficiently captivate and inform his audience or confuse them further on the subject. Dr. Mortenson kept eye contact with his audience almost the entire time he spoke, only looking down briefly to read notes.
As discussed in the article by Clive Thompson, many people use different ways of speaking. Based on text conversations, social media posts, and comments language has made a drastic change. TBH grammar has made like a huge change on society. Lookin at billboards and social media, people post is a totally diff manner than speaking. Lol I remember the last conversation I had with my aunt that lives in Charleston, SC.
Stephen Jay Gould's article, "Sex, Drugs, Disasters, and the Extinction of Dinosaurs”, discusses the essence of science and takes into consideration the significant distinction between both science and mere speculations. To my understanding, Gould is trying to communicate to his readers that sometimes scientists too fall victim to the trending themes of our culture and develop these senseless speculations to gain recognition. In order to prove his point, Gould introduces three theories on how the demise of the dinosaurs came to be- sex, drugs, and disaster. He explains that these will be an effective way of illustrating the difference between pseudoscience and genuine science. In my opinion, Gould’s purpose was to show us, the readers, how
The book “Darwin’s Doubt” by Stephen C Meyer attempts to negate the negativity surrounding the theory of intelligent design by giving a creationist’s perspective on the different issues surrounding the controversy and provide an argument for the legitimacy of intelligent design from a scientific and rational viewpoint. The book is broken into three different sections part one titled “The Mystery of Missing Fossils”, part two titled “How to build an animal” and part 3 titled “After Darwin. What?” Part one of the book focuses on the lack of validation and evidence hence the name “The Mystery of Missing Fossils” and gives a very brief introduction to the problems of missing fossils, missing phyla, and just general missing validation of the evolutionary
There are persons I have met in life that speak a lot, but say little. A person might be using a lot of words while speaking but conveying little information. It is very important to learn how to use words effectively in order to achieve your goal (whether it is to teach, to inform, to persuade, to critique or to comfort). There is no person on this Earth that has not regretted saying the wrong words at the wrong time in their lives. Speaking the right words to relate messages, meanings, emotions is an art that needs to be learned, and it is not easy no matter if we have the gift of speech or not.
There ae sections of the Bible that discuss items such as dinosaurs, hydrology, physics, anthropology, biology and geology (Science and the Bible, 2003). Increasing scientific knowledge has supported the validity of the Bible. The postmodern worldview that does not acknowledge God as the singular source of creation should not be incorporated into a Christian
Scientists across various fields of studies with excellent academic achievements voice their unwavering belief in the theory of creation, and they depict multiple experiments and studies to solidify the validity of creationism. Evolution versus creationism is a battle that began long before today’s modern trials and protests, yet the same basic principles still exist. Creationism is as scientific as evolution, and evolution is as faith-based as
With confidence we know, a baby dolphin is a procreation of its parent dolphins. If questioned the ancestral origin of it, the answer would be, it’s from some kind of fish. But in reality, the earliest ancestors of them are not marine creatures, but a terrestrial creature - Hippopotamuses. This knowledge evoked a certain confusion I had about Natural Science making me realize, what people know with confidence is nothing but a tiny bit of a large story known as ‘knowledge’. While the term confidence can be defined as the ability to know for sure, doubt is defined as a feeling of uncertainty and a lack of conviction.
Nicalea Greenlee Astronomy, 7 December 15, 2017 Science vs. Religion Science and religion has always been an argument for years. I think science and religion are both very important to the way of life and how we see the entire universe. But I believe religion is more believable than science. For science can be proven wrong at any given time and religion can never be stated untrue. Such as the story of creation, evolution, practices and beliefs can contradict these theories.
