Dionysus is the Greek god of wine, celebrations, ecstasy, and of the art of theater. He is included in the 12 Greek god Pantheon and he is residing at mount Olympus. Symbols include the grapevine, cup, tiger, panther, dolphin, and goat. He is often considered as one of the youngest Olympian gods.
His sacred animals were a panther, a tiger, a bull, and serpents. Then his sacred plants were a grapevine, ivy, bindweed, and pine trees. Some of his symbols were a thyrsos, which was a staff with a pinecone on the top, a drinking cup, and a crown of ivy as he is seen wearing one in most of the drawings, paintings, and statues that you see of him. Thesis: In the novel “The Odyssey” Homer displays the main character Odysseus, the master of his sword and the shepherd of men, with god like qualities which clouds his judgement and sense of superiority that he will never transpire to respect the other warriors through his harsh tones. In The Aeneid, obstacles are placed in Aeneas’s way as he journeys to fulfill his destiny, and as he faces these obstacles, he comes face to face with emotional characters. The characters: Juno, Dido, and Turnus, are portrayed as characters, struggling with emotions, who are unable to make decisions because of their foggy mindset and in return cause problems for Aeneas. One of Aeneas’s biggest issues, is a goddess named Juno, who is not happy with the destiny Aeneas is to fulfill.
Although Dionysus seemed to be the more rational one, he was the one who turned very aggressive, when Pentheus’ refused to follow his actions . He felt as though he lost himself, and that no one believes in him. He turned sadistic, the excess of something turned him harsh, even if it were pleasure. He is the perfect image of humanity, he is a God, but acts as a beast.
