Disney 1950 to Present Day
Disney is a household name, whether it be used in the context of Walt Disney, Disneyland, Disneyworld, or just the brand Disney. Starting in 1923, Walt Disney started creating Alice’s Wonderland in his cracker-box studio. After Disney made multiple cartoons, he started making animated films. Then in 1955 Disneyland opened. Walt Disney has had a huge impact on society no matter what the time period. However, the Disney Princess movies seem to have the most impact and relation to society from each time period. Looking at popular Disney Princess movies, the princess waves, and the theme parks, people can see how Disney affects popular culture covering racism, feminism and social class.

Whether a cast member is one stage, and in costume or taking classes at Disney University, it is required for every cast member to adhere to strict dress codes. These codes are extremely traditional, and many of the looks are described as being conservative, and modest. For women, “Business casual attire that is professional, clean and respectful // Hair must be neatly arranged in a conservative style// Hair color and highlights must be natural looking well maintained, and complementary to your complexion// Nail polish must be complementary to your complexion and may not contain decor // A matching set of earrings may be worn in the lowest hole in the earlobe. Only one earring may be worn in each ear // Visible tattoos must be covered with either makeup or clothing” (Disney Traditions 5). For men, “Hair length may not extend to cover beyond or cover the ears or collar // Sideburns should be neatly trimmed, straight and have even width and may not extend beyond the bottom of the earlobe // A fully grown in, well maintained mustache, beard or goatee is permitted // facial hair must not be longer than a quarter of an inch in length” (Disney Traditions, 6). These standards have been around for a long time, and are continuously there even though society has become more relaxed and open minded with its style.
