Distinctive competence is what makes one organization or business different from the others. When considering distinctive competency within an organization, the goal is to identify what it is that make one organization stand above the rest of the competition. At some point an organization will be challenged and distinctive competence will prove the advantage point. Now, Starbucks Coffee Company is a great example of distinctive competency. They are known for their coffee and handmade beverages. Starbucks passion for their customers goes beyond the interest of beverages to food. According to starbucks.com, “a selection of fine pastries, other delectable treats, and even music” is available. Their mission is “to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time,” mentioned on starbucks.com. Titus 3:2 New Living Translation (NLT) reads, “They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling.
