America is such a diverse country. People immigrate to this country from all over the world. My family emigrated from Bangladesh in the early 1990’s. Race and ethnicity contributes a great deal in our current society. It all began when people found wealth through natural recourse which attracted people from different countries to come and discover the new world. This established how race and ethnicity contributes in our society. There are just not whites or blacks. There are Jamaicans, Egyptians, Asians, Canadians, Indians, and so many more. Racial oppression is address through laws that has banned segregation and now, we have an Africa-American president. But there are still a few situations of discrimination and racism in our society. People have their own opinions and some have extreme dislike towards a racial group or groups.
In my perfect society, there aren’t any minority groups, racism, prejudice, discrimination, or segregation. My citizens are taught from a young age that everyone is equal and we will not discriminate against any other person. It is cruel to judge a person just by the way the look. I believe in equality and respect. We should be respect towards others in order to receive respect back. Controversies like racism can and will corrupt a society. If we can get along with each other, how will be able to make decisions that can better our society? We need to work together and collaborate to make our future better for our kids. Since my perfect society will not have any minority groups, racism, prejudice, discrimination, and segregation, I would not have to address racial oppression. I have experienced discrimination due to my race and religion. I lived in New York City until I was 6, then I moved to a very small town in Ohio. It was not a very diverse town. Over the years of my family and me living there, we experienced racism and discrimination. Because of this, moved to Connecticut to get a fresh start. People here are much nicer and friendlier.
