Over the past years, America has had many immigrants come from all over the world to become American citizens, which allowed America to become a diverse country. The different cultures, languages, and the races make America the melting pot. While some people believe America embracing diversity creates unity, it can be argued that America is moving toward a new standard in which diversity and individuality are encouraged more than uniformity and conformity because people are being taught different languages and some people combine or teach others their culture. Children all over the country are being taught many different languages. Learning different languages is important because our country is more diverse than others.
Creating a diverse and inclusive military prepares the Army to face the world's complexities, build stronger relationships with allies, and better serve the American people. Take, for example, WWII and the many problems the nation faced for the first time. A great lesson in the power and benefits of diversity came into play when the U.S. needed secure, immediate, and virtually unbreakable communication. The U.S. Army and the Marine Corps used Navajo Code Talkers in the Pacific islands to send radio transmissions. Employing Navajo Code talkers eliminated time-consuming code books, prone to deadly errors, and added to the early stages of further diversifying the Army with other races.

In my public health career, I have had the privilege of serving diverse populations of various ethnic groups, religious and cultural practices across the globe. Specifically, I have worked with vulnerable groups including the homeless, hungry, pregnant, uninsured, and those infected with AIDS. With these experiences and having being an U.S. immigrant, I am able to easily relate to and empathize with patients of different religion, languages and/or culturally practices. Working with these diverse population has helped to expand my worldview. I have become more open-minded to different ways of getting the same result(s).
- Ways in which diversity can impact on work and work relationships - The similarities and differences that exist between you and your work community may have an impact on your work. In lieu of this, the Marine Corps created four diversity task forces in 2013 and each was led by a general officer and the goal was to develop ways to “remove potential barriers for Marines to compete on merit for leadership positions”. The percentage of black officers in the services has remained fairly steady since 1995; about 5%-7% in the Navy, Air Force and Marines, and 10%-15% in the Army (Zoroya, 2014). With these findings, one can be led to believe that there are certain differences between race and gender when it comes to success in the military. Genetics is the study of heredity and the variation of inherited traits or characteristics. Intelligence is defined as the ability to acquire and apply both knowledge and skills. How exactly genetics influences intelligence is yet to be discovered, but scientists agree that genetics does have some influence on a person’s intellect; however, if intelligence is not completely hereditary, then there may be ways for humans to increase it. This could be helpful in that it could possibly find solutions to genetic diseases in the brain like Alzheimer’s and dyslexia. I came up with my research question – should humans strive to enhance genes to increase human intelligence?
There has been unnoticeable gender war happening in the minds of people. It is creating assumptions based on historical practices between men and women. The thought process of placing women and men in roles that gendered constructed is generalization. Individuals are socialized into gender roles beginning in infancy, and continued through the adult years, via immediate and distal socializing agents such as parents and the media (Ruble & Martin, 1998). The gender roles are not limited to civilians, but also create an impact in the military.
