Recalled to Life In Charles Dickens’ book A Tale of Two Cities the character, Doctor Manette, was falsely accused and locked in a cell for eighteen years. He went insane and was only recalled to life because of his daughter, Lucie Manette, who brought back sweet memories of his deceased wife. After being recalled to life, Doctor Manette found himself in the midst of a crazy adventure. Doctor Manette was recalled to life in three different ways, his body, mind, and feelings were all rejuvenated. Doctor Manette’s body was recalled to life. He was lacking control of his actions and movements while imprisoned. Yet once he was out of the cell, he gained total control and could enjoy life. All his brainpower was restored to him consequently he remembered how to be an outstanding doctor. Because he was rescued from his cell, all Doctor Manette’s memories were restored miraculously. Unlike in prison, he had full control of his words. His reason also returned, he stood up for what was right even when it might have hurt him. Lastly his feelings and emotions were recalled. He forgave Charles Darnay, Lucie’s husband, for his father and uncle, who wrongly imprisoned Doctor Manette although he had every right to turn him in for his blood lines sins. He also sensed something was suspicious with his former apprentice, Ernest DeFarge, and gave them a warning from danger. For these reasons, Doctor Manette learned to love again by loving his daughter. Doctor Manette’s body, mind, and emotions were recalled to life through his daughter. “She was the golden thread that united him to a Past beyond his misery, and to a Present beyond his misery: and the sound of her voice, the light of her face, the touch of her hand, had a strong beneficial influence with him almost always.” The only person capable of bringing restoration, Lucie helped him gain control of himself because she reminded him of his wife whom he had not seen in eighteen years.
