When asked to research a famous Healer, magical or non-magical, the first person who came to mind was Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Jack Kevorkian was a Muggle born Jacob Kevorkian on May 26, 1928, in Pontiac, Michigan, in the United States. He was born to parents Levon and Satenig Kevorkian. Dr. Kevorkian graduated from the University of Michigan in 1952 with a degree in medicine, specializing in anatomical and clinical pathology.

In the 1950s, medical practices in the non-magical and magical communities were very similar to what they are now. However, many important medical discoveries in the non-magical world were made in the 1950s including the synthetic production of Penicillin, the discovery of Hepatitis A, and the first human aorta transplant. Kevorkian is best known for his unorthodox views on death. He believed, and was a consistent advocate of, a terminally ill patient’s right to die. He was given the nickname “Dr. Death” by the US media. Between the years of 1990 and 1998, Dr. Kevorkian was reported to have assisted in the suicides of 130 terminally ill and suffering patients. He even designed euthanasia devices that the patients operated themselves to commit suicide. He was arrested multiple times for murder, but could not be convicted as the patients had always taken the action themselves. However, in 1998, a video was aired of a patient named Thomas Youk who, with Dr. Kevorkian’s help, was voluntarily euthanized. The video, however, showed Dr. Kevorkian injecting the patient with a lethal drug himself. He was charged with the murder of Youk and was found guilty of second-degree homicide. He was sentenced to 10-25 years in prison, but was paroled for good behavior and health reasons in 2007, after spending eight years in prison.
