On January 24, 2018, Dr. Larry Nassar was sentenced to 40-175 years in prison for the sexual assault of over 100 gymnasts. Nassar worked as the doctor for the national gymnastics team, where he claimed to be giving the gymnasts a medical treatment, but was, in fact, molesting them. At his sentencing hearing, 156 gymnasts spoke out about how Nassar had assaulted them, and the judge made him endure it all. After a week of the gymnasts and their families confronting Nassar, the court case came to a close. The girls that were assaulted had tried multiple times to tell of these wrong doings, but the authorities wouldn’t believe that someone at such a respected position could do that to the gymnasts. Many of the victims stated that they were minors when it happened. This current event perfectly fits the theme for this six weeks. Someone at such a high power used it to abuse young gymnasts.
