The 1920’s was a time of dramatic change: Culturally people were changing, Music and Broadway were becoming highly popular. Dancing and Speakeasies were the “It” thing to do and women started becoming more independent. The 1920’s also known as “The Roaring Twenties” was a time of outrageous new fads, new music and almost an entire new culture. Many new changes were brought upon a falling society; some were good, while others were dangerous. Many new interesting events come from this time era. Dancing became a popular hobby, and then dance marathons would eventually arise. Dance Marathons would occur non-stop, one of the longest records was thirty-six hours. There was also something called “Flagpoling” where people in the town would compete to see who could sit the longest at the top of a flagpole. Some popular people of this time were, Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb: They were famous baseball players at this time (Fads & Heros”). Music and music production was followed by many people of this time. Music production was a changing factor during this era. They were working on a electrical recording process, rather than the normal acoustic. They began to make records, which started flying off shelves. Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and Sophie Tucker were all known for their musical inclination. Music such as, Jazz, Blues, Broadway and Dance Bands were the main popular trend of music. Jazz began with African Americans, it combined European, and African styles. Blues originated earlier than Jazz, we have the deep southern states to thank for Blues. Broadway was a way musicians, composers, dancers, could all come together, and perform as one. Some broadway shows were later on made into movies
