The dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan by the United States was significant factor in the end of the war with Japan. During this time, United States wanted an unconditional surrender from Japan. The solution in getting their unconditional surrender was the “super bomb”, the atomic bomb. Even though it was going to be used against Japan, it origin started when Albert Einstein altered President Franklin D. Roosevelt that the Germans working on building a new, destructive bomb. With this warning, President Franklin D. Roosevelt brought together a group scientists to a version of this bomb, this was known as the Manhattan Project. Many famous scientist were involved in the creation of the atomic bomb, such as J. Robert Oppenheimer and Albert Einstein. The …show more content…

In May 1945, World War II was ending in Europe. Upon this victory, there was also realization that Japan had not yet surrender. Although, the United States has been fighting in the Pacific to defeat that had not reached unconditional surrender with Japan. With the recent victory in Europe, United States wanted to end World War II quickly. Consequently, with the need for of end the war brought the idea of using the atomic bomb. Military leaders and government officials saw the atomic bomb as means of ending the war. They speculated that the dropping of the bomb would destroy their infrastructure and deteriorate Japan’s military forces. Even though many military leaders and government officials preferred the use of the bomb, scientists were not so enthusiastic to explore its use. Scientist thought with the introduction of the atomic bomb would bring later wars that involved atomic warfare. Regardless, it was not their choice on dropping the atomic bomb it was President Harry S. Truman. Unlike the scientists, President Harry S. Truman agreed with the atomic bomb being dropped.
