Another main problem with Jamestown was the quality of water and how it was. They died because there was little to no rain. This was bad which meant barely any water. Since the lack of rain led to problems, there were many droughts in Jamestown (57). Since they had so many droughts, they could grow little food because of the lack of rain (57). Some other reasons the Jamestown people died was because of they poured their filth in the river because they thought their filth was going to the rivers and creeks(55). The reason why they died was because Jamestown was in horrible situations. Eventually, they had came to a point where they had people dying, becoming sick, and weak because of the lack of food. The Jamestown people also died because of the quality of water. Water for them was bad because of the fact that they had filth in their rivers, long droughts, fighting over the water, and having little water to fight over. Fighting over little water was useless. The Jamestown people thought that the Indians had more water, so they fought the Indians for a year or two. Another main problem was the jobs. Smith quotes that, “there is only one surgeon in Jamestown,” which was a huge, huge problem(59). Another main problem was having no gunsmith, which was bad for the Jamestown people (Smith)(59). If you had no gunsmith, how would the people of Jamestown be able to ask a gunsmith to fix a broken gun? Since there was only one surgeon, many people died because they had lacked in jobs, food, and even water(59)! One surgeon was not enough to save the people of Jamestown(59). Jamestown needed at least ten or more surgeons to help, operate on, or even just to check to see how they’re doing.
