Introduction of the potential problem

The case study is on Drunk Driving. The data set contains number of deaths (in thousands) due to drunk driving, recorded from the year 1982 to 2001. So we can analyse the trend of whether the number of deaths is on a rise.
The analysis using the SPSS tries to analyse the changing pattern in number of deaths encountered.

Tool used for analysis: SPSS

SPSS is a statistics analysis tool developed by IBM Corporation. The software was released in 1968. It is generally used for data mining, text analytics and collaboration and deployment. SPSS stands for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. It is used to do predictive analysis as well. It is widely used by professionals from social sciences, health research, survey, market research, data mining etc.

Mean
Mean or average, in theory, is the sum of all the elements of a set divided by the number of elements in the set. Formula for mean:
Mean = Sum of all the set elements / Number of elements
The importance of mean lies in its ability to condense the whole dataset with a single value.

Median
Median is the middle value of a set. If a set consists of odd number of sets, the middle value is the median of the set, and if the set consists of an even number of sets, then the median is the average of the two middle values. The median may be used to separate a set of data into two parts. Median most accurately summaries the set, better than the mean.
