“Every two minutes, someone is injured in a drunk driving crash and every fifty-one minutes someone is killed”(cite). “Two out of three people will be affected by a drunk driving accident in their lifetime”(cite).These statistics are too high. It should not be that way because people should be responsible and respect everyone’s life. Car crashes take away lives every year, but according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the main factor that changes a fun and happy roadtrip into a tragedy is alcohol. When people drive under the influence of alcohol (DUI), they do not think about what is going to happen next. Instead, they just live in the moment. They do not know that their irresponsibility will affect society tremendously and that the effects of DUI could have been prevented. She lost her 15 year-old daughter, Emily Cook, in a drunk driving accident. Emily was spending the night with her friend Ashley Ertle when at night Ashley’s dad, Jeffrey, told the girls that he was going to take them to a gas station. He was drunk and he was driving eighty-five miles per hour. He crashed and the two teenagers died in the accident. Emily’s mom says that her daughter could have been with her right know if it was not for a bad decision. She said that a wrong decision took her girl’s life and that it could have been prevented.
