It is easy for teens to come up with a reason as to why they began drinking because they have been asked so many times. Escobedo, Cherba, and Waweiler states, “Established patterns of alcohol use may play a major role in decision making that proceeds to drinking and driving among adolescents” (976). Therefore, drinking should not be for everyone if you don’t know the full consequences and don’t know how to maintain your liquor. Here are three main reasons why teens do alcohol or any other drug for that matter. Cristol states, “teens blame their parents for half of their reason for drinking, 29 % blame their peer group, 2.5 % blame the media, and 2% blame the alcohol industry”(15). The first is that drinking and driving has been found higher among African Americans and higher among males than females, and the second is that with the increase with age and decrease in school performance teens need to understand the importance of drinking and driving(977). It is turning out that more teens use other drugs as well as alcohol (Escobedo). Teens become more prone to developing a negative mind set when they become under the influence. Teens have shown many signs of obvious alcohol usage. Some of those uses include, “mood changes, obnoxious behavior, and being deceitful or secretive” (Brown Unviversity1). Teens do not understand the importance of taking responsibility for their actions. Escobedo says, “more than 32% of all deaths among teens between 15-24 years are related to alcohol crashes” (979). This shows teens need to be aware of the actions drinking will cause. Finally, a teen can get help by finding a nearby program in their community. As Marcotte says, “drinkers are more frequently violated when graduated licensing laws and engaged in more “high-risk” driving behaviors” (322). Teens would consider drinking as more of a reliever. Research suggested that more teens between 16-18 years are riskier for using alcohol” (Marcotte 322). This suggests there is more help available than people may
