I am interested in education and specifically ELL education as a career because in highschool I took Spanish all the way through the highest level offered at my school, dual-enrollment IB Spanish V. Throughout the time spent learning and working on my language skills I have felt very fortunate to have developed my ability to communicate and interact in Spanish. Additionally, a part of learning and being around the language led me to be able to communicate and interact with Spanish-speaking students at my school, including students in the ELL program and international students. I was originally drawn to Evergreen because of the interdisciplinary nature of the courses of study and the community involvement opportunities that are offered, and while I was able to enjoy those aspects of my courses I was challenged by the lack of structure in certain areas of the courses I participated in. I believe that it takes a certain type of student to thrive in a less structured environment and that someday I may be better adjusted for that style of learning, but at the moment I believe a more structured learning environment is best for achieving my academic goals. I see California Lutheran University as a place that offers interdisciplinary and community opportunities along with a more structured learning environment which is why I see CLU as a great fit for my pursuit of higher education and my career goals. Additionally, many of the courses in my desired path at Evergreen were still only being offered online and I struggled to stay engaged in learning during zoom meetings and online only coursework. I am a student who can thrive in teamwork and when making connections with other students and faculty which is another reason I feel that transferring to CLU would be a step in the right direction to continue my education.
