In England, all children can receive a free Early Years Education Entitlement from their third birthday until they start reception class or reach compulsory school age of 5. The free entitlement for all 3 and 4 year olds is for a maximum of 570 hours a year which equates to
15 hours a week over a minimum of 38 weeks a year.

This entitlement is provided by most pre-schools, playgroups and nurseries, some registered minders, local schools with a nursery class, and some nursery classes attached to independent schools.

Since July 2013, 2 year old children have also been granted an entitlement to early years education as well. The child is eligible to have 15 hours per week for 38 weeks per year. The childcare provided can be taken
