Ecological footprint reaction:
It is disturbing to believe that if every single person on planet Earth were like me, it would take 4.7 planets to sustain the entire population. I had no clue that my actions as an individual person had such a huge impact on the environmental cycle of Earth. According to my ecological footprint, I take up a little over 20 acres of Earth’s natural land resources. I can’t help but feel quite selfish as I might be taking away resources from other people who don’t have access to life sustaining necessities. Up until this point, I have taken the most simple things for granted; the electricity I use, my automobile, and the clothes I wear. In the United States mainly, I had grown up in a capitalist and consumerist society, …show more content…

There’s significant evidence that huge amounts of carbon dioxide, a green house gas, in the atmosphere prevents the heat from the sun’s rays from escaping, acting like a huge blanket around the planet. The carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere by the use of non-renewable sources of energy. The non-renewable sources of energy come from fossil fuels; coal, oil, and gas. When burned, they emitted tons of carbon dioxide in to the atmosphere. People use fossil fuels all around the world, and the effects are soon to be devastating on a global scale, if wont don’t change our ways soon. Once the Earth heats up, and the the glaciers melt, a huge amount of land mass will be under water. This Global Sustainability and Earth Literacy project is related to climate change because it is the study of the energy consumption in my own home, where most of the energy comes from non-renewable sources. Since carbon emissions are due to energy usage, it is in my best interest to lower my energy consumption. After I lower my energy usage, I will encourage others to do the same by living a more environmentally sustainable life. I propose to do this by posting on social media and challenging my friends to lower their energy bill. I can also post a link to a National Geographic video where Bill Nye explains climate change.
