My philosophy of teaching is simple, I believe the purpose of education is to prepare our youth for the real world and as an educator, it is my responsibility to ensure that I provide my students with the necessary skills, and resources they need to survive and succeed in the real world. Furthermore, as an educator and a life-long learner, I believe it is important to also teach the value in having a good education. The bottom-line is, being an educated person can open doors and provide opportunities to those who might not otherwise have many other options in life. I recall, my grandmother instilling the value of a good education in me and my siblings. I excelled in all my academics; however, at the age of ten, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee with my father after my parents divorced and due to environmental, social, and economic changes in my life my attitude towards school and life became blurred. I no longer saw the importance of education and I suffered from feelings of hopelessness. After many years of trying to figure out what my purpose was in life, I re-enrolled in school. I went from nursing school, to journalism school, and back to nursing switching from program to program; eventually, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. After becoming a mother, I still struggled with career options but discovered I loved teaching my own children and thought to myself that this might be a good career for me. I decided I would take the education I had acquired in nursing and journalism school and give teaching a shot. I started off as a substitute teacher, an interventionist and eventually a full-time gifted science instructor. After teaching for a few years, I discovered that not only had I found my passion in life but my purpose as well. I continued teaching for the next five years while earning my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership (MAED), and taking on various leadership roles in my school and in my
