The most prominent influence that I have had in regards to my personal development and commitment to education is my family. All of my family members instilled in me the idea that education is important for me to succeed, and because of them, I make sure that I work hard in school. My grades and school activities are indicative of my passion for learning and my determination to take advantage of my educational opportunities. Out of all of my family members, only my mother and my aunt attending and graduated from college; my other family members were unable to pursue a college education based on factors ranging from financial instability to not having the requirements needed to even be admitted into college. During my high school career, I have taken some of the hardest courses my school has to offer because I know that that is what I need to do in order to prepare myself for college and the real world. I have also maintained my GPA and class rank throughout my four years of high school, which illustrates my commitment to academic success. Even though I have had times where I found school to be difficult or overwhelming, I knew that I needed to continue in order to reach my goals. I never gave up even when I felt like I wanted to, and I constantly remind myself that this is going to benefit me in the long run. I have had the privilege to job shadow at a local animal clinic for three years now, and I have found it to be the most pivotal aspect of me solidifying my career choice. Observing the veterinarians while they work in the animal clinic and gaining a hands-on experience reassured me that this is what I want to do with my life. The veterinarians always encourage me and show support in regards to my choice and they have helped me attain knowledge that cannot be obtained in a traditional classroom setting. Therefore, I wish to be one of those veterinarians that assists others in achieving their dreams. I feel that having a mentor is one of the best ways to learn about the world, and I would positively impact others’ lives if I were to help them out and guide them in the right direction. Having a steady support systems, to me, is necessary for one to succeed, and thus, I want to be someone’s support system in order for them to reach prosperity in the field of veterinary medicine and their futures in
