Educational Philosophy Statement

During my summer visit to my grandmother’s home, I watched her wake up at early dawn every morning to start her daily lessons for summer camp. It was an exciting time for me. I can still smell the summer breeze as we begin to prepare for the day. My grandmother owned her own school ( what kind) and taught for many years. I eagerly helped her prepare the lessons for the day alongside my aunts and cousins. You could say it was a family affair every summer we would teach, play games and provide an early foundation for kids. My whole life has reflected around the vales, my grandmother instilled upon me to embrace and appreciate the diversity of children. With those roots I am destined to repeat her footsteps as an educator.

Teachers are the backbone of this community, education revolves around creating the classroom and extracurricular experiences. As student advocates, teachers play a crucial leadership role both in their schools and in the greater community. Teachers can also be a trusted source of advice for students weighing important life decisions. Educators can help their students pursue higher education, explore career opportunities and compete in educational events. Students often look to their teachers as mentors with experience and knowledge and as an educator, I will almost definitely be asked for advice at some point during my career. For example, did you know that one in four students drop out of school every nine seconds! Dropping out is a decision that students won’t likely come to you about, but an involved teacher can notice the indications that a student is struggling. Aside from educating them on the hard facts about dropping out, teachers can also help assess the problem and figure out an alternative. In such situations, teachers undoubtedly have the ability to change the lives of students. I want other students to feel the power of teacher engagement that change my perspective as a student. My desire is to embark on a career over the next 4 years of my life attending Alabama State University majoring in education. Hopefully, to one day save a young scholar from dropping out of high school and helping them become the best person they can
