Additionally, a classification system that he created for galaxies has been used by other researchers for decades, now known as the Hubble sequence.” However, there were far more other important discoveries. Physicsoftheuniverse.com explains his very active years in the 1920’s, “Edwin Hubble was an American astronomer who, in 1925, was the first to demonstrate the existence of other galaxies besides the Milky Way, profoundly changing the way we look at the universe. Later, in 1929, he also definitively demonstrated that the universe was expanding, (considered by many as one of the most important cosmological discoveries ever made), and formulated what is now known as Hubble's Law to show that the other galaxies are moving away from the Milky Way at a speed directly proportionate to their distance from it” This research formed a stable base of the Big Bang theory, which states that the universe began with a burst of energy in a small ball of energy, and is continuing to expand to this day. The Hubble Space Telescope is a satellite telescope that orbits around Earth, and takes pictures of distant stars, planets, and galaxies. According to Hubble Essentials, the Hubble Telescope is 353 miles above the surface of the Earth. The Hubble Telescope launched April 24, 1990, from the Kennedy LC-39B site. The Hubble Telescope should’ve launched four years before, but an explosion occurred, causing the Hubble project to be delayed for another four years. According to history.com, “The fledgling Hubble program suffered a massive blow in 1986, after the space shuttle Challenger exploded during liftoff, killing seven astronauts. NASA grounded its space fleet in the wake of the tragedy, leaving Hubble—which depended on the shuttle for its transport and maintenance—without a ride into orbit.” Luckily with that, the scientists were able to make some adjustments and fixes, such as another issue that would’ve been a bigger problem if it had been in orbit. Its curve was wrong – it was just a tiny bit too flat, off by a depth about 50 times smaller than the thickness of a human hair. The pictures being beamed back to Earth, while still better than the images from most ground-based observatories, were not the quality scientists had expected. They were blurry. Three years later, astronauts went to Hubble and installed
