The Civil War and African American Rights

Imagine living in the 1950s and 1960s. Slavery and discrimination dominated in the United States, causing the white population to feel superior, and if that wasn?t bad enough, African Americans could not even use the same public facilities as whites. Sure, you think you can imagine living in this segregated world, but you can?t imagine the true pain that many of these people felt, considering they were the ones living in the segregated lands. Now, why am I writing this? What influenced me to write a research article on one of the most segregated time periods in history? Well, I am writing about this topic specifically because it breaks my heart every time I hear about it, I often think that if I were alive, I would absolutely have tried to change the ways of the world, and it upsets me that not many people did much to help, and I see a lot of discrimination and racism in the U.S. still, and it makes me so upset, many African Americans and whites fought against segregation, discrimination, racism, etc., we don?t want nor do we need it in this world. . …show more content…

This occurred after the Civil War, which abolished slavery, but sadly, did not abolish discrimination against African American citizens. Segregation and discrimination happened all across America, but the most discrimination and segregation happened in the South, sure, African American citizens faced racism in the North, but it occurred more often in the South. The civil rights movement is more of an umbrella term, which is a term that groups together a bunch of significant events that correlate to each other, of activism and activists that sought to secure full citizenship and human rights for African
