When you do all the right things in your life and still become a victim, you might wonder why? How can this happen? These might have been the kind of thoughts that Elizabeth Smart thought about when she was kidnapped and held captive by her kidnappers. So how did she survive this ordeal? There were several things that happened to Elizabeth. She was kidnapped, threatened, held as a prisoner, and sexually assaulted multiple times. We will look at the things in her life and find out about this 14-year-old girl named Elizabeth Ann Smart and how she became a survivor. Elizabeth Ann Smart was born on November 3, 1987, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was one of the six children of Ed and Lois Smart. Then, in March of 2003, Elizabeth was found by the Salt Lake City Police because a Good Samaritan called in a tip that led the police to their location. Elizabeth was reunited with her parents and family. She continued with her education by going back to high school, continued to college and reclaimed her life. Elizabeth is now an adult, a wife, and a mother of three children. Elizabeth has used her experience to help others to better the lives of other victims of abduction and rape. In April of 2003, Elizabeth was present when President George W. Bush signed the AMBER Alert into law. She has authored books, and she has been on a number of shows and news cast. She has spoken at numerous places to advocate for missing and exploited children and rape victims. Both of her parents, Ed and Lois Smart, pushed for the media to stay on the case of finding Elizabeth. They stayed focused on keeping the information about Elizabeth out there in multiple ways.
