Many people, including scientists, argue whether or not stem cells should be used to cure many diseases and other disabilities patients may have. This research could be remarkable is the stem cell’s amazing ability to divide and develop into many different types of cells. They also have the ability to repair damaged cells in tissues. The ability to specialize in any type of cell and seemingly divide without any limit could advance medicine in many ways. It is important to note that there are two different kinds of stem cells, embryonic and adult stem cells. The key differences between embryonic and adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells, on the other hand, can only be taken from embryos, and taking them kills off the embryo. It is obvious that embryonic stem cell research can be viewed as unethical. Many such religious affiliations believe that “all human life is valuable regardless of where it may fall on the continuum of life.” (christianitytoday.com). However, embryonic stem cell research has a lot of potentials to solve many diseases and illnesses. From the medical point of view, stem cell research is viewed as very promising due to the fact that if stem cells can be introduced into patients with a range of illnesses, they could possibly help restore the tissues and organs of the patients and thereby because they can help heal many illnesses such as stroke because of the many benefits stem cell research has to offer, most scientists are wanting research done on embryonic stem cells if at all possible, due to the fact that they have greater plasticity than adult stem cells and thus greater potential to contribute to medical breakthroughs.
