A stem cell is a cell that can change or develop in to different types of cells. Currently scientists are hoping that the stem cells can be used to grow tissues and organs which mean that they are still researching. Stem cells come from embryonic and adult stem cells. The embryonic stem cell comes from embryos which are 4~5 days old and the adult stem cells come from adult tissues. Also stem cells could be found in the teeth, the bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, amniotic fluids etc. Totipotent, pluripotent and multipotent are the three main types of stem cells. Totipotent stem cells are the most important stem cell types because it can be developed into any cell in the human body. Pluripotent cells which are also known as true cells are cells that have the ability to differentiate to any cells in the body.
