Doctors support stem cell research because of its significant health benefits and the tremendous potential it possesses for the betterment of the human race.
I. Bone marrow transplants uncovered the unique properties of stem cells and revealed to scientists a world of possibilities.
A. Bone marrow is the soft, spongy substance located within the center of bones; bone marrow contains somatic stem cells that are able to produce any cell type that makes up our blood ("Stem Cells in Use").
B. During bone marrow transplants, doctors give patients with a bone marrow disease or blood disorder healthy somatic stem cells.
C. There are several kinds of stem cells in the human body, and each stem cell is tissue specific, meaning the cells can create …show more content…

Embryonic stem cells are the focus of many researchers due to their pluripotent properties, and these properties give rise to many possibilities for the world of medicine.
II. Researchers and scientists are constantly pursuing treatments for the seemingly incurable diseases that infect millions of people each year, and with the help of embryonic stem cells, a promising cure has emerged.
A. Stem cell therapy is a regenerative medicine that repairs diseased or injured tissue by using stem cells ("Mayo Clinic").
B. Doctors must use embryonic stem cells because adult stem cells do not have the pluripotent properties that embryonic cells do.
C. Researchers can grow and manipulate embryonic stem cells into specific types of cells, such as heart muscle cells, blood cells or nerve cells ("Mayo Clinic").
D. Doctors can implant these manipulated cells into the patient's injured tissue, and after implantation the stem cells slowly repair the dysfunctional cells resulting in a healthy organ.
E. The ongoing research on this revolutionary procedure is saving millions of lives each year.
III. Researchers must further their research to continue to save more lives, but until recently the only way to obtain pluripotent cells was by removing a fertilized embryo which caused some
