There are many things to discover through science. One of the most interesting discoveries in science is the so called stem cell therapy. So what is a stem cell therapy and what is a stem cell? First, stem cell therapy or stem cell research is an emerging field in science and medicine wherein stem cells are used in replacing damaged cells and cure diseases involving the regeneration of cells. Due to the cell’s regenerative properties, it can treat diseases like diabetes, heart disease and blindness. Second, stem cell is an undifferentiated cell that can be isolated from an embryo or in an adult stem cell that can be destined to different types of cell with specialized function. The stem cells can either be embryonic in nature or adult stem cell. Embryonic stem cells are stem cells in wherein it is isolated in the inner cell mass in the blastocyst stage of a developing embryo. It can be derived by means of in vitro fertilization wherein the fusion of a sperm cell and an egg cell is done in the laboratory and not in the normal woman’s womb. It is when we can be able to see the baby cry, laugh, crawl, walk, eat, drink and the likes. In the course of development, a baby will develop its capacity to think and reason out. In the case of the embryonic stem cell, it is isolated in the inner cell mass of the blastocyst of the developing embryo which is only a few days after fertilization. This cell mass does not exhibit the characteristics mentioned above. So for me, it is not wrong to use embryonic stem cell in therapies for medical purposes.
