Since the start of 21st century, a lot of work and importance has been highlighted on the role of leadership in an organization. Leadership has been studied in depth considering varying characteristics and many factors. This study explains the relationship of emotional intelligence and leadership in learning organization. Researchers have concluded that higher emotional intelligence is the basic foundation of strong leadership. In this research we have considered three driving factors, i.e. self-confidence, self-awareness and self-motivation. Our study is descriptive in nature and we will use quantitative tools for our research.

Being a leader managing one’s emotion is very vital for his leadership. As described by Ashkhanasy and Tse (2000), all types of leadership resolve around “mobilizing human resources toward the attainment of organizational goal”. Researcher have emphasized on the proper use of emotions to become a successful leader. Pescosolido (2000) argues that leader use emotions for securing assistance within groups, to encourage groups and improve the required communication. One field of leadership that seems promising for heaving a relationship with emotional intelligence is transformational leadership. Yukl (1999) describes that the theories related to transformational leadership mainly emphasize on the value of emotions, when compared with other form of leadership. Transformational leader uses emotional intelligence to create ties with his followers and inspires higher values. Transformational leadership does not represent all types of leadership but it offers a model with clear theoretical connection with emotional intelligence. Thus transformational leadership is the best choice for consideration in the present scenario. The first dimension of transformational leadership is the ability to influence followers. Firstly, our research will be providing support to existing research and theory regarding emotional intelligence and transformational/innovative leadership. Secondly our research will focus on the personality trait of the leader that may lead to the identification of good leader/manager.
Until recently, emotions had no place in organizations and people had no idea of their importance at the workplace. Previously in the corporate culture managers neglected emotions in dealing with employees and were not aware of its significance. However, now the need for emotional intelligence has increased greatly and EI is considered a great corporate challenge of the 21st Century. A great number of researchers and top level management have recently come to acknowledge the significance of emotional intelligence (EI) in the success of an organization. A number of research studies have established relationship between Emotional Intelligence and effective leadership, team success and employee performance. Instead, management is waking up to the fact that their success is directly related to their ability to work productively with employee emotions.
