Introduction Every day, thousands of girls are dress-coded in schools. However, teachers are more concerned about punishing the students with suspensions for breaking the dress code than maintaining a better learning environment (Ramsey 00:03:21-00:03:34). Around the world, dress codes have been known to be more discriminatory against females. For example, many school dress codes have rules directed against girls, like banning spaghetti strap tops or crop tops. Over time, students have noticed that only girls tend to wear attire like spaghetti strap tops, and those rules cannot apply to boys. On average, most dress code violations were for girls. To explain, these unfair dress codes can create the impression that females can be sexualized and that males are easily distracted by a female's choice of clothing (Nguyen). Considering how many people are affected by the unequal dress codes, schools and companies should start implementing a dress code that is less targeted but still maintains a safe learning and working environment. Most complaints about dress codes happen in an educational environment and by students hoping to wear what they choose. By enforcing a stricter dress code for girls, schools create a hostile and biased environment.
