Ergon Energy Corporation Limited is a corporation formed in 1999 and owned by the government of Queensland. In 2007, the Queensland Government privatised the retail activities of Ergon and its subsidiary, Ergon Energy Queensland Pty Ltd. was formed. The Distribution network of electricity remains in public ownership. Ergon Energy operates as a non-competitive retailer in regional Queensland, part of Australia servicing approximately 700,000 customers in an areas (including Townsville, Cairns, MacKay and many more) covering 1.7 million square kilometers. The retail business is seeking to deliver safe, reliable and affordable electricity. Ergon Energy is responding effectively to ensure that electricity and distribution network capacity is available to meet the energy demands driven by the economic and lifestyle aspirations of all customers.

These raw energy forms are particularly coal, natural gas and petroleum (fossil fuels), nuclear, hydro, and others (e.g., wood, waste, geothermal, wind, and solar).
