Erikson proposed various stages of psychological development that progresses as life move from one stage to another from infancy till reaching state of late adulthood. The generativity versus stagnation stage is linked with middle age adulthood while ego integrity versus despair stage is linked with late adulthood explained for person. Each stage has its own positive and negative output that influence individual thought process and approach towards society. There are various physical and cognitive changes that occur in late adulthood and that eventually lead to death or dying process. The responsibility of adulthood is achieved and social responsibility is undertaken. The integrity stage of late adulthood drive positivity in terms of exploring life and able to develop contemplate of accomplishments made during the tenure of life till reaching late adulthood. The negative outcomes are achieved when stagnation state is reached and therefore the life has no further addition to make it productive. The feeling of stagnation lead to dissatisfaction and there is relative lack of productivity in life and unable to provide direction to the generations. This occurs in middle adulthood and people become relatively self-centred and are not willing to help society to move further or add learning to the generations. The ego despair also drives negative outcomes especially in late adulthood since people look back at life and observe the state of depression and hopelessness. The ego despair stage limit the broaden thought process and person focus more towards unachieved goals rather than life accomplishments. The integrity on one end focus on highlighting successes achieved during the life tenure and person feel contended therefore the process of death or dying is accepted gracefully. While, the despair aspect focus on person’s non achievements and goals that were unfulfilled and this lead to death through following a state of depression or feeling non-fulfilment and the death is accepted as only remaining objective. The cognitive change pushes the changes at intellectual level while late adulthood has different reactions to accept the forms of death. The reactions like denial or anger are the ones where individual deny the realistic facts and move towards state of depression and eventually turns into bargaining stage and tries to plead the God. The path defines the death or dying process since each path has different outcome based on individual state. The person going through integrity will accept death gracefully while there will more bargaining done by despair since the attempt to make unfulfilled wishes comes true doesn’t end. The dementias lead to memory loss and person eventually accepts the death therefore the process has to go through graceful process altogether so that dying is not
