America believes to be the greatest country in the world and having one of the most intelligent people. What happens when America only focuses on competing with other countries deciding which country is the best and has the most riches. What if there is no future for America since we are less focus on our greatest resource which is children. One day they will become the next engineer, president, doctor, or teacher. America is the country of opportunities, one of the opportunities is everyone has the right to an education, but why does it matter when you are not receiving the right education. The education system in the United States of America is failing to prepare the children for the real world. Our system cannot compete with other countries, teachers are limited on what they can teach, poverty, educational reforms, standards and curriculums, and teachers shortage. These factors are some of many things that make the system fail.

Now days teachers must follow the states guidelines in their teaching. The states have the power to change the content of the textbooks. California and Texas are big on changing their textbooks, they spend millions of dollars changing the content. Since the process is expensive, the publisher will sell the new textbooks around the United States. Even if other states do not support this they are stuck with the new textbooks. In May 2010, Texas changed the whole curriculum of social studies for kindergarten through twelve grade. The textbooks are now more politically conservative than previous standards.
