There were many events that took place during world war 2, all the bombing, night raids, speech presented by Hitler etc. But there is just one question that everyone asks about ww2. What was the most important event that took place? What was the most unforgetable turn of events that happened that no one could forget. Auschwitz-Birkenau, Belzec, Bergen-Belsen, Buchenwald. All of these are the names of concentration camps in Germany and Poland, but there was a whole lot more than 4 camps spread over Germany and Poland. These were camps that the Nazis held-basically captive for their lives- Jews and beat then almost to death and forced them to do inhumane jobs and found the Nazis found their pain "amusing". This is without a doubt the most horrific and important event that took place in ww2.

This “identity card” is of a Jewish woman held in one of the several camps. The card is stamped with a 'J' following a 1938 Nazi regulation. They did this to try and keep track of how many prisoners they had which was way over 150,000 in Auschwitz alone and almost millions in all the camps, because more people died in Auschwitz than the British and American losses of WW2 combine. Documents of camps in Poland are found in the Polish State Archives museums, local archives, collection of private individuals, and other sources from concentration camps. At Auschwitz: 400,000 survived selection, 905,000 did not. The names of 230,000 survivors are known. Almost all of the Auschwitz records were destroyed by the retreating Germans. The names of the survivors that are known are primarily from records of other camps which included information that the prisoner originally came from Auschwitz.
