Throughout the years there has been an experiment going on. During this experiment foster homes all around the country were being moved into privatized agencies. Understanding that this experiment has done more harm to not just our community but to communities all around the U.S. is something that most people still need to do.Abuse in privatized foster homes has continued to grow at a very fast rate over the past five years.
About 27 years ago California Started a nationwide experiment, it consisted of making a portion of the foster homes into a private foster home upon the belief that it would be better for the community as a whole. Not even ten years later the system had failed, more and more cases of physical and mental abuse started popping up across the nation. Children were being put in situations that they could not control. “Those living in homes run by private agencies were about a third more likely to be the victims of serious physical and emotional abuse” (Therolf.) In 2015 alone more than 686,000 kids were declared to be abused or neglected in the private foster homes they were in.

75% of kids who age out of the system end up in jail, dead or living on the streets within the first year of being out of the system. At age 18 you are no longer allowed to be in the foster care system which means that most kids will be either kicked out of their homes within 24 hours of them turning of age or they are given a time when they need to leave the home. In most cases kids who turn 18 in the foster system don’t have enough money to get themselves a home or go to college.
